ABOUT

We’re Luna Frederique and Keanni Burke, two friends who founded Tree of Saba in 2021 in Amsterdam in honour of our Caribbean roots. Saba is the Caribbean Island where our grandparents were born; it’s the foundation of Tree of Saba and a great source of inspiration.
While growing up, our grandparents told us all about traditional herbal remedies like sea moss, which they used to cure eczema, acne, and inflammatory bowel syndrome.
When we reached our early 20s, we also dealt with skin complaints and other issues and decided to tackle these conditions as pure and organically as possible. We applied our grandparents' wisdom and started to delve more into holistic ways to treat the body.
Sea moss has a long history of healing properties within Caribbean and African cultures.
Wildcrafted sea moss is native to the Atlantic shorelines of the Caribbean Islands (including Saba), North America, the Indian Ocean, and Europe. The sea moss used for the Tree of Saba Sea Moss Gels is harvested from the unsullied waters of another Caribbean Island, Saint Lucia. Sea Moss is rich in minerals and magnesium, high in vitamin C and fiber. So, it makes sense that it provides a lot of healthy qualities. For example, sea moss has been known as a booster for the immune system and the overall mood as it helps prevent stress and inflammation. Its anti-microbial and antiviral features are anti-aging and combat skin conditions.
Another natural product with a long and beneficial history within African and Caribbean cultures is shea butter. Of course, TOS also sells and produces its very own Whipped Shea Butter. Shea butter is a plant-based fat obtained from shea nuts, the fruit of the West-African shea tree. Shea butter is dense in vitamins and fatty acids like linoleic acid and oleic acid, which provide moisture while preventing the skin from getting too oily.
For centuries, it has been used worldwide as a body cream. The organic and unrefined shea butter used for our Tree of Saba products comes from Burkina Faso.
Our grandparents shared their knowledge with us, and subsequently, we also passed it on to our friends and relatives. But we wanted to do more, because we believe that everyone deserves to reap the benefits of this knowledge and heal and pamper themselves in a pure and sustainable way. We founded Tree of Saba to bless a broader community with our organic and affordable health and beauty products.
We strive to produce our products as ethically as possible while respecting their cultural history. Honouring our ancestors, leaf by leaf and jar by jar.
